Mosquitoes in October & November on the Northshore; What gives?

Many people are hoping the cold weather will possibly put an end to all the mosquitoes we’ve been seeing in our area recently.

In reality, every year around October and November, we actually have an increase in mosquito activity.

A couple of things that have contributed to the perfect mosquito storm this year.

- With recent cooler temperatures, we are spending more time outside.

- This summer’s drought condition has resulted in cracking soil within marsh areas along the shorelines of Lake Pontchartrain and rivers. The cracking of the soil has allowed more places for mosquitoes to lay their eggs.

- Recent southern winds have been pushing those mosquitoes into the yards of Mandeville, Madisonville and Covington residents.

Louisiana is the top mosquito-prone state in the entire country. And the Northshore is the perfect breeding ground for the pesky insects.
